Steering damper rod c/w knob
Steering damper rod with knob, 97-1142, for tightening the friction damper in the steering head on Triumph telescopic forks.
This is the steering damper rod and knob assembly, 97-1142, the part that runs down through the top of the steering stem to tighten or loosen the friction damper on telescopic front forks. Turn the knob and it draws the rod down against the damper plates stacked in the steering head, letting a rider dial in more or less resistance in the steering depending on road conditions or personal taste.

It shows up across a wide run of telescopic fork figures in the parts books, from the 6T and T110 through the T90, T100 family, TR6, and T120, spanning catalog years 1960 through 1970. The knob carries the Triumph script and threads onto the rod, so if you're missing either piece you're usually better off replacing the pair together.
The older book reference for this part is H1142, and it's also been listed as WW61038 in some records. If you're chasing a steering damper knob or rod off an early or mid-60s Triumph twin and your parts book still uses the letter-prefix numbering, H1142 is the one you're looking for.
