PLATE,STEERING DAMPER ANCHOR
Steel anchor plate for the front steering damper assembly, sandwiches the friction plate against the frame.
This is the steering damper anchor plate, catalog number 97-1797, also seen under the old H1797 numbering. It lives at the front of the bike in the steering damper stack, part of the setup that sandwiches the friction plate against the frame so the damper can be tightened down to add drag against the steering head.

The catalog places this in the FRONT FORK figure, and our records show it appearing across 1971-1972 listings. It is a plain steel plate, not a fancy part, but it is the piece that gives the friction plate something solid to bear against when you crank the damper knob down.
If you are rebuilding a steering damper assembly, check this plate against the rest of your stack before you order - it works alongside the friction plate and the damper rod, and you want the whole assembly matched up before you put it back together.
