Kickstarter Spindle
The kickstarter spindle that the kick lever pivots on inside the gearbox inner cover.
This is the kickstarter spindle, the shaft the kickstart lever pivots on to turn over the engine. It lives inside the gearbox inner cover, and shows up in the parts book under the GEARBOX SHAFTS, BEARINGS AND INNER COVER figure. The older book number for this same part is T1981, which you'll see if you're working from an earlier parts list.

The spindle takes the torque from your leg through the kickstart lever and transfers it into the gearbox internals to fire the engine, so it sees a fair amount of stress every time the bike is started. Our catalog record spans a run of appearances from the mid-60s into the mid-70s, but we can't pin this to a specific model year for you here - check it against your own parts book or give us a call before ordering.
If you're pulling the gearbox inner cover for other work, this is worth inspecting for wear at the pivot point and where it engages the quadrant, since a worn spindle can make the kickstart feel sloppy or slip under load.
