PLUNGER SPRING 2.30 70-ON
Gearbox quadrant plunger spring (57-4459/T4459) that holds the camplate indexed in gear on Triumph 5-speed gearboxes.
This is the plunger spring used in the gearbox inner cover, part of the selector mechanism that indexes the camplate into each gear position. It sits behind the quadrant plunger and keeps that plunger pressed against the camplate so the gearbox holds firmly in gear rather than slipping between positions. The catalog lists it as 2.30 for the 70-on gearboxes, and it shows up under the old T4459 designation as well as the current 57-4459 number.

It's a small, inexpensive part but an important one for shift feel - a tired or broken plunger spring is a common cause of a gearbox that jumps out of gear or feels vague going into neutral. It appears across gearbox inner cover and selector mechanism figures in the parts books from 1973 through 1985.
Given what it does, it's the kind of part worth having on hand when you're in the gearbox for other reasons, since replacing it later means splitting the case again.
