Housing, index plunger
Housing for the gearbox index plunger, part of the selector mechanism assembly (also listed as T4400).
This is the housing for the gearbox index plunger, part number 57-4400, which shows up in our records under the older T4400 stamping as well. It lives in the gearbox, specifically in the area covered by the inner cover and selector mechanism figures - this is the assembly that helps hold the selector mechanism in its proper position as you work through the gears.

The index plunger itself rides inside this housing and works against the selector quadrant to give positive feel between gear positions. If you're rebuilding a gearbox inner cover assembly and the housing is worn, cracked, or has a stripped thread where it seats, this is the piece to replace rather than trying to true it up.
Our catalog record shows this part appearing across a long run of years in the gearbox figures, but we don't have a specific model tied to it here - check it against your own gearbox internals before ordering to make sure the fit is right.
