Outer fork covers wrap around the stanchion and lower fork assembly, giving the front end a finished look and helping keep road grime off the sliding parts underneath. Being the left-side cover specifically, it's not interchangeable with the right side piece, so make sure you're ordering the correct one for your fork leg.
