Gearchange quadrant plunger
Gearchange quadrant plunger for the five-speed gearbox, works with its spring to hold each gear position with a positive click.
The 57-4403 is the gearchange quadrant plunger used in the five-speed gearbox setup on the later unit-construction twins and triples. It sits in the inner cover assembly and works against the gearchange quadrant to hold each gear position with a positive click as you shift, backed by its own spring so the plunger stays seated against the quadrant's notches.

Over time the plunger tip wears down or the spring behind it loses tension, and that's usually when riders start noticing sloppy or uncertain gear selection, or the lever not wanting to settle into a gear properly. It's a small, inexpensive part to check when the shifting feel goes soft, and it's worth replacing along with its spring rather than on its own if you're already in there.
This one shows up in the parts books for gearbox inner cover and outer cover work on the later five-speed twins, so if your bike has the five-speed box, this is the correct index plunger for it.
