Quadrant return spring
The return spring that snaps the gear change quadrant back to neutral inside the gearbox.
This is the return spring for the gear change quadrant inside the gearbox. It lives under the outer cover, on the selector mechanism that the gear lever works, and shows up in both the gearbox outer cover figures and the inner cover and selectors figures across the catalog. Its job is to snap the quadrant back to its neutral position after you've moved the lever, so the shift mechanism resets cleanly between gears instead of hanging up wherever you left it.

The older book number for this part is T404, so if you're working from an earlier parts list that's the one you'll see printed. This spring appears across a long catalog run, which tells you it's a part that stuck around largely unchanged for a good while on the unit-construction gearboxes.
It's a small, inexpensive part but it does real work every time you shift, and a tired or broken one will make the gearbox feel sloppy or reluctant to find neutral. Worth keeping a spare on hand if you're already in the gearbox for other work.
