SPRING,GEAR QUADRANT PLUNGER
The gear quadrant plunger spring for the gearbox outer/inner cover assembly, keeping the gearchange quadrant properly located.
This is the small spring that sits behind the gear quadrant plunger in the gearbox, part number 57-0405, also shown in older parts books under the T405 designation. It works with the plunger to keep the gear quadrant located and returning to its proper position as you work the gearchange, and it shows up in the parts book sections covering the gearbox outer cover and the inner cover and selector mechanism.

It's a simple piece, but if it's tired or missing you can end up with a gearchange that feels loose or doesn't index properly between gears. Given how small and inexpensive this spring is, it's a sensible thing to toss in when you've got the outer cover off for other work rather than waiting for it to act up on its own.
Our records show this part appearing across a long run of catalog listings, so check your own parts book for your particular gearbox to be sure this is the spring called out for your rebuild.
