This is the 3/8 in. steel ball used in the gearbox outer cover assembly, catalogued as 60-2368 with the older D2368 form also on record. It shows up in the parts book under the gearbox outer cover and gearbox outer cover and levers figures, which is where the selector mechanism lives.

A small ball like this typically works with a spring to give a detent or index feel to a lever or plunger, holding it in position until the rider moves it again. In this case it's tied into the outer cover and lever assembly on the gearbox side of the engine.

The factory later superseded this part number with 57-1771, so if you're working from a newer parts book or a supplier's current listing, that's the number you'll find it under. Either number gets you the same physical ball.
