The relief valve body houses the spring-loaded piston that bleeds off excess oil pressure once the pump is putting out more than the system needs, protecting the oil pump drive and bearings from being over-pressurized. If you're chasing an oil pressure problem, this body along with its internal piston and spring is one of the usual suspects to pull and inspect.
