Pulse sensor c/w lead
An electronic pulse sensor with lead, fitted under the timing cover in place of contact breaker points to trigger the ignition.
The 99-7044 is a pulse sensor with its lead attached, fitted under the timing cover on the front of the engine. It's the electronic ignition trigger that replaced the mechanical contact breaker points arrangement, sending a signal to the ignition system so the spark happens at the right moment. Catalog appearances put this piece in the 1979–1980 timeframe.

You'll find it referenced in both the timing cover and contact breaker figure and a separate timing cover and pulse sensor figure, which tells us this part came in as some machines were transitioning from points-type ignition to a pulse-triggered electronic setup. If you're working on a bike from that era and aren't sure which ignition system you've got, it's worth popping the timing cover to look before ordering.
We don't have more detail on this one beyond what's in the catalog record, so if you need confirmation on fitment for your particular machine, give the shop a call before you order.
