Rectifier, type 2DS 506 (49072)
Type 2DS 506 rectifier, converts the alternator's AC output to DC for charging and the electrics.
This is a rectifier, type 2DS 506, catalog number 99-0589. It shows up across a run of electrical figures in the parts books - general electrical equipment listings, the ignition coils and horn section, and instrument/electrical pages - which tells you this was a standard fitment across a wide span of years in Triumph's catalog, 1969 through 1977 by our records.

A rectifier's job in this era of bike is straightforward: it takes the AC current coming off the alternator stator and converts it to DC so the battery can charge properly and the rest of the electrics have the right kind of current to run on. If your charging system is acting up - battery not holding charge, warning light behavior that doesn't add up - the rectifier is one of the usual suspects to check alongside the zener diode and the alternator itself.
This part number was later superseded by 49072J, so if you're working from an older parts book or matching up an old part pulled off a bike, you may see it under either number. They're the same physical component under different factory numbering.
