Split cotter

Split cotter that locks the valve spring cap onto the valve stem in the cylinder head.

PN · 99-0062
Superseded by 71-3748.

This is the split cotter that seats in the top of a valve stem to retain the spring cap and hold the whole valve assembly together under spring pressure. It shows up in the cylinder head figures across a wide run of catalog listings, from single and twin carb top ends through several head variants, which tells you it is a common small part used wherever a valve spring cap needs locking in place.

Our records show this number, 99-0062, was later superseded by 71-3748, so if your parts book or an older stack of cores turns up either number, they are the same physical piece under two different factory identities.

It is a small item but not one to guess on. If you are rebuilding a head, check your engine's actual valve gear against the figure your parts book shows before ordering, and grab a spare or two while you are in there since these tend to get lost or damaged during valve spring compression.
