Heat sink bracket
A heat sink bracket for mounting the zener diode in the ignition/charging system, later superseded by 97-4262.
The 97-2236 is a heat sink bracket, the small metal mount that holds the zener diode and lets it shed heat into the surrounding air. It shows up in the ignition and charging system figures alongside the coils, horn, and rectifier, which is exactly where the zener diode lives on these machines - bolted to a bracket that acts as a heat sink so the diode doesn't cook itself while it's bleeding off excess charging current.

On the bike this bracket is part of keeping the charging system in check. The zener diode has to dump unwanted voltage as heat, and without a proper heat sink bracket to draw that heat away, the diode runs hotter than it should and doesn't last. This part gives it somewhere to mount and something to conduct that heat into.
Our catalog record shows this one under the alias H2236 as well, and the factory later replaced it with part number 97-4262. If your parts book lists either the old H-prefix number or the later 97-4262, you're looking at the same physical bracket - just make sure you order under whichever number matches what your bike actually needs confirmed at the counter.
