STEERING DAMPER ADJ SLEEVE

Adjuster sleeve nut for the friction-style steering damper on Triumph telescopic front forks.

PN · 97-0408

This is the adjuster sleeve nut for the steering damper on Triumph telescopic front forks, part number 97-0408, also listed as H408 or WW61074 in older parts books. It threads onto the steering damper rod and lets you tighten or ease off the friction damper that sits between the fork and the steering head, giving you control over how much resistance the front end has at speed or on rough roads.

The catalog shows this sleeve turning up across a run of forks and steering damper figures for the T100C, T100R, TR6, TR6C, 6T, and T120 through the mid-to-late 1960s into 1970, along with mentions in the handlebar and nacelle headlamp figures where the damper knob comes up through the top of the assembly. If your bike has the older friction-style steering damper rather than a hydraulic unit, this is the part that lets you snug the assembly down by hand.

Worth checking your parts book against the figure for your specific fork before ordering, since this sleeve nut shows up under a few different part number formats depending on which year's book you're holding.
