PROP STAND SPRING 68-ON - UK MADE
UK-made prop stand (sidestand) return spring, catalog number 82-8382, listed for 1968-on machines.
This is the prop stand spring, catalog number 82-8382, made in the UK and shown in the parts books as fitting machines from 1968 on. It's the spring that pulls the sidestand back up out of the way and holds it there once you've kicked the bike upright, so the stand doesn't drag along the ground or flop down while you're riding.

The part shows up in the frame section of the parts books, which is where you'd expect a sidestand component to live, and it also turns up referenced in the chaincase and chains figure in our records. It carries over two older factory numbers, 65-4742 and 82-8392, so if your parts book lists either of those for your stand spring, this is the same piece.
It's a simple, inexpensive item to keep on hand. Springs like this take a beating from vibration and road grit over the years, and a tired or broken one means a sidestand that won't hold itself up or won't retract cleanly.
