BSA Oil pump scavenge gear — driving
Driving gear for the scavenge side of the oil pump, part of the gearbox-area oil pump assembly.
71-2417 is the driving gear for the scavenge side of the oil pump. It sits inside the oil pump body and is the gear that gets turned by the drive from the engine, pulling oil back out of the crankcase and returning it to the tank rather than letting it pool at the bottom of the motor.

This one shows up in the parts books alongside the gearbox sprocket and pressure release valve listings, which tells you it lives in that same cluster of oil-pump hardware rather than being some standalone accessory. Our catalog record only covers 1971 to 1972, so if your bike falls outside that window, check the pump assembly before ordering to make sure the gear profile matches what you've got.
If you're rebuilding an oil pump, it's worth pulling this gear along with its feed-side counterpart and inspecting both for wear on the teeth and the end faces — a scavenge gear that's worn thin is a common reason a rebuilt pump still can't keep up with return flow.
