Exhaust tappet
Exhaust tappet (cam follower) from the bottom-end valve gear, factory part 70-6490, later superseded by 70-8801.
70-6490 is an exhaust tappet, part of the valve gear that rides against the exhaust cam lobe and transmits lift up to the pushrod. It shows up in the parts book under the OIL PUMP, RELEASE VALVE, MANIFOLD AND TAPPETS figure, which puts it down at the bottom end of the motor near the oil pump and cam followers rather than up top in the head.

Our catalog record for this one is thin, just a single appearance tied to 1967. If you're chasing this tappet for a rebuild, this later factory number 70-8801 replaced it, so if your parts book lists 70-8801 instead, that's the same tappet under its updated number.
As with any tappet, wear on the foot that rides the cam is what you're checking for when you pull the barrel apart. Call the shop and we'll confirm fitment before you order, since our record here doesn't give us a model to point to beyond the year it's cataloged under.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
