PLUNGER 500 KICKSTART PAWL
Kickstart pawl plunger for the 500 gearbox, keeps the kickstart pawl engaged with the quadrant.
This is the kickstart pawl plunger for the 500 twin gearbox, the small spring-loaded piece that lives behind the kickstart pawl and keeps it pressed against the quadrant so the kickstart engages properly when you swing the lever. It's a gearbox internal part, showing up in the parts book under the GEARBOX SHAFTS, BEARINGS AND INNER COVER figure. If your kickstart is slipping or not catching cleanly, this plunger (or its spring) is one of the usual suspects to check.

The part shows up in our records under the older T1282 and I50AC numbers as well as the current 57-1282, so if you're working from an early parts book don't be surprised to see a different code for the same piece.
Catalog listings place this across gearbox work spanning the late 1960s. It's a small, inexpensive item to have on hand when you're in the gearbox inner cover anyway, since it's easy to lose track of during a strip-down.
