NUT, KICK PINION/SWING ARM (replaces 99-3542)
A nut used on both the kickstart pinion (gearbox mainshaft) and the swinging arm pivot on Triumph unit twins from the mid-1960s.
NT297 is a nut that does double duty in the parts books - it shows up both on the gearbox mainshaft where the kickstart pinion sits, and out back on the swinging arm pivot. The factory used the same nut in both spots across a run of unit-construction twins through the mid-1960s, and the catalogs show it superseded later by 99-3542, so if your parts book lists that number instead, you're looking at the same nut.

On the gearbox side it holds the kickstart pinion in place on the mainshaft, and on the swinging arm side it secures the pivot assembly that lets the rear suspension do its job. Because one part number covers two different jobs, it pays to know which application you're ordering for before you order.
If your bike's parts book uses the older T2009 or 57-2009 style reference, or you've seen it cross-referenced under 70-2419 or E2419, that's the same physical nut under a different catalog listing. Worth keeping a spare on hand since it's a small, easy-to-lose part whenever you've got the swinging arm or gearbox mainshaft apart.
