Steering stem nut
Steering stem nut for the telescopic front fork, secures the fork yoke and steering stem to the frame.
The 97-4323 is the steering stem nut for the telescopic front fork assembly, the fastener that sits atop the fork yoke and secures the steering stem into the frame. It's the nut you're turning when you're setting steering head bearing preload during a fork or headstock rebuild. In the older parts books this one shows up as H4323, so if you're working from an early catalog and see that number, it's the same physical part.

This one has a hole through it, which points to it being drilled for a split pin or locking wire rather than relying on friction alone to stay put. Catalog listings tie it to the telescopic fork figure across the early-to-mid '70s span of our records, so it belongs at the top of the steering stem, not down at the fork legs themselves.
If you're rebuilding a steering head, it's worth checking this nut for thread wear and making sure the hole for the locking pin isn't damaged before you put it back into service. Give the shop a call if you want to confirm exactly which stem and yoke setup you're working with before ordering.
