BRAKE ROD 1971-74 ZINC STEEL ADD S FOR STAINLESS
Rear brake operating rod for conical hub rear brakes on Triumph and BSA twins, 1971-74, in zinc-plated steel or stainless.
This is the rear brake operating rod for Triumph and BSA twins fitted with the conical hub rear brake, catalog years 1971-74. It runs back from the brake pedal linkage to the rear brake operating arm on the hub, and it's the piece you adjust to set free play and pedal height at the rear drum. The catalog lists it in zinc-plated steel as the base part, with a stainless version available if you add the S suffix to the number.

You'll find this one listed under the motor unit fitting and footrests section of the parts book, which is just where the linkage routes past the frame on its way back to the hub. The legacy number F12860 is the same physical rod, so if your old parts book or an NOS box shows that stamp, it's this part.
Worth a look at yours before ordering if the rod is bent, rusted through the threads, or missing altogether — a tired brake rod is an easy thing to overlook until the adjustment runs out or the pedal feels wrong underfoot.
