Dirt excluder

Rubber dirt excluder for the rear swinging arm pivot, keeps grit out of the pivot bushings.

PN · 83-2692

This is the dirt excluder for the swinging arm pivot, also called a dust excluder or dust seal rubber. It's a small rubber part that seats at the pivot area of the rear swinging arm assembly, keeping grit and road grime away from the pivot bushings so they don't wear out prematurely. The parts book lists it under figure SWINGING ARM AND SUSPENSION UNITS, which is exactly where it lives - at the point where the swinging arm pivots in the frame.

The alias F12692 is the older factory number for this same rubber, so if your parts book or an old invoice shows F12692 you're looking at the identical part. It shows up across catalog listings from 1971 into the mid-1980s, which lines up with the oil-in-frame era Triumph twins.

It's a low-cost item and one that's easy to overlook, but a torn or missing dirt excluder lets water and dirt straight into the swingarm pivot, so it's worth checking when you've got the rear end apart for any other reason.
