CENTER STAND SPRING 1954-58 PU - 1959-74 500
Return spring for the center stand on pre-unit and unit Triumphs, pulls the stand up and holds it against the frame.
This is the return spring for the center stand, sometimes called the mainstand, on pre-unit and unit Triumphs. It's the spring that pulls the stand back up and holds it against the frame once you've kicked the bike off the stand, so the stand doesn't drag or drop down on its own while you're riding.

The catalog carries it as 82-3617, with F3617 as the older pre-1969 numbering you'll see in earlier parts books. Our records show it appearing across pre-unit machines from the mid-1950s through the late '50s and into unit-construction bikes running into the mid-1970s, so it's a long-lived part that carried over across several frame generations.
It's a simple, inexpensive piece, but a tired or stretched one will let the stand hang low or rattle, so if yours looks fatigued or won't snap the stand back up firmly, it's worth swapping in a fresh one.
