CAST SUMP PLATE T140 (USES DRAIN PLUG 21-1872)
Cast sump plate for the Triumph T140 oil-in-frame, closing the bottom of the oil-carrying frame tube; uses drain plug 21-1872.
This is the cast sump plate for the T140 oil-in-frame layout, part number 71-3316, later superseded by 71-7584. On these frames the front downtube doubles as the oil tank, and this plate closes off the bottom of that tube where the oil collects before being picked up by the pump. It's a frame casting, not a gearbox or primary cover, even though it shows up alongside chaincase and gearbox figures in the parts books because of where it sits in the overall assembly sequence.

The plate uses drain plug 21-1872, so when you pull this plate for cleaning or inspection you want that plug on hand as well. If your parts book lists 71-7584 instead of 71-3316, that's the same physical part under its later factory number - order under whichever number you're working from, they're interchangeable.
Appears across catalog entries spanning 1974 to 1980 for the T140 platform. Given how it mates with the drain plug and the frame casting around it, it's worth confirming fit against your specific frame before ordering.
