PN · 70-8731

This is a small spring washer used under one of the oil pump cover screws, listed in Triumph's own parts books at .172 in. x .348 in. x .048 in. It shows up in the parts diagrams for the oil pump release valve, oil filter, and inner primary cover area where the oil pump lives on the engine's bottom end.

It's the kind of part nobody thinks about until it's missing from the bag of hardware, but it's doing the basic job any spring washer does: keeping tension on the screw so it doesn't work loose from vibration once the cover's bolted down. Catalog records show it appearing across a run of years from 1969 into 1974, and it also carries the older E8731 number if you're working from an earlier parts book.

If you're rebuilding the oil pump or pulling the inner primary cover, it's worth checking this washer along with the screw it rides under — cheap insurance isn't a phrase Ed uses, but it's the sort of small part worth having a spare of before you button the cover back up.
