Timing cover
The timing cover (70-4567 / E4567) that closes off the timing chest and houses the contact breaker gear at the front of the engine.
This is the timing cover, part number 70-4567 (older books list it as E4567). It bolts to the front of the engine and closes off the timing chest, the compartment where the contact breaker points and coil-triggering gear live. Pull it off and you're looking at the ignition timing mechanism; leave it on and it keeps chain oil and road grime where they belong while giving you a mounting point for the points cover and patent plate.

In the parts books this cover shows up under two figure headings, TIMING COVER, CONTACT BREAKER AND COILS and TIMING COVER AND CONTACT BREAKER, which tells you it's tied directly to the ignition timing side of the motor rather than just being a blank plate. Our catalog record for this number runs across appearances from 1964 to 1967.
If you're chasing one of these for a rebuild, check your gasket surface and threads carefully before reusing an old cover — cracked castings and stripped holes are the usual reason people go looking for a replacement in the first place. Give us a call if you want to confirm which engine family your example is off before you buy.
