Patent plate

The timing cover patent plate for Triumph twins, the small ID badge that mounts over the timing gear cover.

PN · 70-4016
Supersedes 60-1802 — earlier factory number for this part.
Available in 4 versions:

This is the patent plate that mounts on the timing cover, the small identification badge Triumph riveted to the engine covers on their twins. It shows up across a long run of catalog years and appears in timing cover figures alongside contact breaker and pulse sensor variants, meaning it was carried over even as the ignition triggering underneath it changed from points to electronic pickup. The older factory number for this part was 60-1802, so if your parts book lists that number instead of 70-4016, you're looking at the same plate.

On the bike it's purely an identification piece, not a functional part of the ignition or timing gear it's mounted over, but it's one of those small details that gets noticed on a numbers-matching or show-quality build. Given how often it turns up loose or missing on cases that have been through a few rebuilds, it's an easy thing to check when you're going through the timing cover.

We list it under 70-4016; if you know it as E4016, that's the same plate, just the older catalog form of the number.
