BSA Stop plate, gearchange spring
Stop plate for the gearchange spring, fitted inside the timing cover on the gearchange mechanism.
This is a stop plate for the gearchange spring, part number 68-3298. It shows up in the parts book under the inner timing cover and gearchange mechanism figures, which puts it down in the gearchange area on the inside of the timing cover where the selector return spring does its work.

A stop plate like this is a small fixed piece that gives the gearchange spring something solid to bear against so the mechanism returns and centers the way it should. It's a simple part, but if it's missing, worn, or the wrong one, the gearchange spring won't seat right and shifting can feel off.
