Gearchange spindle bush
A small bush the gearchange spindle rides in inside the gearbox inner cover, keeping the shift action tight and controlled.
57-7009 is the gearchange spindle bush, a small bearing bush that the gearchange spindle rides in as it passes through the gearbox inner cover. It shows up in the parts book under the gearbox inner cover and selectors section, and also gets referenced in the timing cover and contact breaker figure, since the gearchange spindle runs through that area of the engine/gearbox assembly on these unit-construction machines.

What it does is simple but important: it gives the shift spindle a true, low-friction surface to pivot in as you work the gear lever. A worn bush here shows up as sloppy, imprecise shifting or a spindle that wobbles more than it should - not a dramatic failure, but the kind of thing that makes the whole gearchange feel loose and vague over time.
Our catalog record for this one spans the mid-to-late 1970s. If you're rebuilding a gearbox or chasing a vague-feeling shift lever, this is a cheap thing to check and replace while everything's apart.
