Layshaft c/w 2nd and high gear
Gearbox layshaft assembly with 2nd and high gear fitted, catalog number 57-4042 (formerly T4042).
This is the layshaft assembly out of the gearbox, complete with 2nd and high (top) gear already fitted to it. The layshaft sits inside the gearbox shell and carries the sliding and fixed gears that mesh with the mainshaft to give you your ratios, so it's a core piece of the internal gear cluster rather than a simple shaft you'd swap on its own without going into the box.

The legacy book number for this one is T4042, and the catalog also shows it superseding an earlier factory number, 57-1960 — same physical part, just an older listing you might find in an earlier parts book. It shows up in the gearbox shafts, bearings and inner cover section, so expect to be pulling the inner cover to get at it.
Our catalog entries for this part span 1970 into 1974, but we'd want to check your specific gearbox internals against this assembly before you order, since layshaft specs changed across the years and ratios. Give us a call with what you've got and we'll confirm it's the right one.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
