SHIFT FORK 500 TRIUMPH - MAINSHAFT 1958-74
Mainshaft shift fork for the Triumph 500 twin gearbox, part number 57-1480 (T1480).
This is the mainshaft shift fork for the Triumph 500 twin gearbox, part number 57-1480, known in older parts books as T1480. It lives inside the gearbox on the mainshaft, engaged in the groove of the sliding gear, and its job is to physically push that gear back and forth as you work the gear lever so the transmission changes ratio.

A shift fork that's worn where it contacts the sliding gear groove is a common cause of gears that jump out, hang up, or feel vague on the way through the box. If your Triumph 500 twin gearbox is shifting sloppy or popping out of gear under load, this fork and its selector mechanism are worth pulling and inspecting alongside the other gearbox internals in this same area of the case.
This PN shows up across catalog listings for the Triumph 500 twin family going back to the late 1950s and running into the mid '70s. Check the fork against your own gearbox parts diagram before ordering to be sure it's the mainshaft fork and not the layshaft one, since gearboxes typically use both.
