Cam

Contact breaker cam for the ignition timing assembly, part number 54440029.

PN · 54440029

This is the contact breaker cam, the small lobed piece inside the ignition timing assembly that pushes the points open and closed as the engine turns over. It lives under the contact breaker cover, part of the ignition setup shown in the parts book alongside the coil. As the cam rotates it lifts the points follower at the right moment to fire the spark, so its shape and the way it seats on the shaft has a direct bearing on ignition timing.

The catalog record for this one covers a narrow window of appearances, 1963 to 1964, so treat that as what we know rather than a full fitment picture. Beyond that we don't have more detail on this one in our records.

If you're replacing this cam, it's worth checking it against the points and advance unit you're running before fitting, since these ignition internals were revised over the years and mismatched parts inside the contact breaker assembly won't set your timing right. Call the shop and we'll help confirm fitment before you order.
