PN · 54033234
Superseded by 54033234T.

This is the Lucas type 228 stop lamp switch, part number 54033234, later superseded by 54033234T. It's the pull-type switch that trips the rear brake light when the brake pedal moves the operating rod. In the parts books it shows up in the swinging arm and suspension figures, since that's where the switch and its spring mount on the frame near the rear brake linkage.

Our catalog record ties this part to appearances from 1970 through 1974, though the exact model fitment for your bike is worth confirming before you order given how many years and variants this switch turns up in. If your book lists the number as 54033234T instead, that's the same physical switch under its later factory number.

These switches are simple but they do fail with age - the internal contacts wear or the return spring gets weak, and either way you end up with a brake light that doesn't work or one that stays on. Worth checking the spring and mounting bracket condition at the same time you replace the switch itself.
