Norton Cotter, kickstart lever
The cotter pin that locks the kickstart lever onto its shaft so the lever doesn't work loose.
This is the cotter pin (Ed still calls it a cotter, the old book term for the little tapered pin) that locks the kickstart lever onto its shaft. It's a small part but it does real work - without it, the kickstart lever will work loose on the splined or tapered shaft and eventually won't grip at all when you go to start the bike.

Catalog records show this part turning up in the footstart and footchange area, and again where the outer timing cover meets the kickstart and footchange gear, so it's doing its job right where the lever pivots on the shaft. The catalog entries we have run from 1969 to 1970, though we can't say from our records whether it carries forward outside that span.
It's cheap enough insurance to have a spare in the toolbox, but check the fit against your own lever and shaft before you put it in - these pins are sized to their particular application and we don't have more detail on file to guarantee a match beyond what's shown here.
We've never carried this one. Tell us what you're after and we'll go looking — you'll get a price and photos before you commit to anything.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
