Norton Nut, rear damper top mounting (3/8" British Standard Cycle)
A 3/8 inch British Standard Cycle nut for the rear damper top mounting.
This is the 3/8 inch British Standard Cycle nut used at the top mounting of the rear damper, where the shock absorber attaches up near the frame. It shows up in the catalog under the swinging arm and cylinder head figures, which is common for a small fastener like this - the same nut size gets used in a few spots around the bike so it turns up across more than one section of the parts book.

BSC thread nuts like this one are getting harder to find loose at the hardware store, so it's worth keeping a spare or two in a drawer if you're doing suspension work. Check the stud or bolt it threads onto before you order, since BSC threads won't interchange with modern UNF or metric fasteners.
The catalog record for this part spans a run of years in the early 1970s, but it doesn't tie the nut to one specific model, so confirm what you've got on the bike before ordering.
