Tank anti roll rubber

Rubber mount that stops the gas tank from rocking side to side on the frame.

PN · 82-9222

This is the tank anti-roll rubber, part number 82-9222 (older parts books list it as F9222). It sits under the gas tank at the mounting point and keeps the tank from rocking side to side on its perch as the bike moves down the road. Without it, or with one that's gone hard and cracked, you'll notice the tank shifting slightly under braking or hard cornering, and the paint can wear through at the contact points from the metal-to-metal movement.

It shows up in the frame and gas tank/twinseat sections of the parts books, which tells you it's a small mounting-hardware item rather than a structural piece. Catalog entries for this one run from 1968 to 1971.

If you're replacing the tank or doing a rebuild, it's worth checking the condition of this rubber along with the rest of the tank mounting hardware while you have things apart. Give the shop a call if you want us to confirm what else you might need for a full tank remount.
