Battery carrier rubber strip
Rubber pad/strip that lines the battery carrier, cushioning the battery in its tray.
This is the rubber pad that lines the battery carrier on the bike, part number 82-8031, also listed under the older F8031 designation. It sits inside the tray that holds the battery, cushioning it against the metal carrier and the vibration that comes off the frame and engine.

It shows up in the parts book under the BATTERY, TOOLKIT AND AIR FILTER and BATTERY CARRIER AND AIR FILTERS figures, and it appears across catalog listings running from 1968 to 1974. If the rubber in your carrier has gone flat, cracked, or turned to crumbs, that's usually why the battery rattles around or sits crooked in the tray.
It's a simple piece, but a tired one lets the battery shift and can lead to a cracked case or a battery that isn't sitting where the strap and carrier expect it to. Worth a look any time you've got the seat off and the battery out.
