Air cleaner element (filter cloth & gauze)

Cloth-and-gauze air cleaner element for the Triumph air filter housing, listed as 82-6866 (formerly 82-5764).

PN · 82-6866
Supersedes 82-5764 — earlier factory number for this part.
Available in 3 versions:

This is the air cleaner element for the Triumph air filter setup, made of filter cloth and gauze rather than the paper-element type. It sits inside the air filter housing shown in the parts book alongside the battery carrier and toolkit, filtering intake air before it reaches the carburetor. Our catalog record carries this under 82-6866, with the older factory number 82-5764 and the alias CAW 233M showing up as the same part across different book printings.

The cloth-and-gauze construction is the older style used before Triumph moved to paper elements, and it shows up across catalog entries running from 1968 through 1974. If you're not sure which style your air filter housing takes, pull the old element and compare before ordering, since housings built for cloth/gauze elements and later paper elements aren't always the same shape.

Worth checking the element periodically for splits or collapse, since a torn element lets unfiltered air and grit straight into the carb. This one supersedes the earlier 82-5764 part number, so if your parts book lists that number, it's the same physical piece.
