VALVE SPRING TOP COLLAR
A top collar that retains the valve spring and collets at the top of the valve assembly in the cylinder head.
71-7285 is a valve spring top collar, one of the small retaining pieces that sits at the top of the valve spring assembly in the cylinder head. Its job is to locate the spring and work with the collets to hold everything in place on the valve stem, so the spring can do its work opening and closing the valve as the cam turns.

This one shows up in the CYLINDER BLOCK AND HEAD section of the parts book, tied to a 1983 listing. It's a small piece but an important one - if it's worn, cracked, or missing, the valve train above that cylinder won't hold together right.
The catalog record we have on this part is thin, just the single listing, so if you're matching this against an engine outside that 1983 timeframe, give us a call and we'll confirm it's the right collar for your head before you order.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
