PLUG CRANK SHORT (thin) 71-ON OIF - Replaces 68-0184
Short crankshaft sludge trap plug for OIF-era Triumph twins, PN 71-2800, replacing the earlier 68-0184.
This is the crankshaft plug that seals the sludge trap on OIF-era Triumph twins, part number 71-2800, also seen as E12800. The catalog calls it the short (thin) plug, used from 1971 on, and it replaces the earlier 68-0184.

The sludge trap is a passage bored into the crank cheek that catches debris out of the oil flow before it reaches the connecting rod journals. This plug closes off that passage and has to come out any time someone's cleaning the trap during a rebuild. It sits under the crankcase, out of sight, and it's not something you check without splitting the cases.
Because it lives inside a highly loaded rotating part, get the crank cheek machined and this plug seated tight before you put the engine back together. The catalog also shows an older number, 70-3905, feeding into this one, so if your parts book lists that figure it's the same plug in a different vintage listing.
