GASKET - POINT COVER
Gasket that seals the points cover on the timing case, keeping moisture and dirt out of the contact breaker.
71-1462 is the gasket that seals the small points cover on the timing case, right where the contact breaker lives. It's a thin sealing piece, not a mechanical part, but it does real work keeping road grime and moisture out of the points cavity so the ignition timing stays clean and consistent.

This one shows up in the parts books under the TIMING COVER AND CONTACT BREAKER figure across catalog entries running from the early '70s into 1980, so it's a long-running number in the unit-twin lineup. The older factory number for this same gasket was 70-5049, and you'll also see it written as 70 1462 or under the E11462 form in some records — all the same physical part.
It's a cheap thing to keep on hand relative to the trouble a leaking or missing points cover gasket can cause down the line, since it's what keeps the points from getting fouled by water or dirt working past the cover.
