BSA Oil pump driving spindle
Oil pump driving spindle, the shaft that drives the oil pump off the engine's gear train.
This is the oil pump driving spindle, part number 71-1141. It's the shaft that transmits drive down to the oil pump, tying the pump's motion to the engine's timing gear or camshaft drive train. Without it turning, the pump doesn't turn, and without the pump turning, oil doesn't circulate.

Our catalog record for this one only shows a single appearance, tied to the oil pump and gearbox sprocket figures, with a 1970 date attached. That's a narrow slice of information, so before you order, check this spindle against the pump and drive gear you've got on the bench to make sure the fit and length line up.
Spindles like this take a beating from wear at the drive tang and bearing surfaces over the decades, so if yours is chewed up or loose in its bore, it's worth swapping rather than trying to nurse the old one along.
