CRANK PLUG 500/350 SLOTED
Slotted crank plug that seals the sludge trap tube on Triumph unit 350/500 twin crankshafts.
This is the crank plug that seals the sludge trap on the crankshaft of Triumph's unit-construction 350 and 500 twins. The part number is 70-9492, with E9492 and AA44 as alternate forms you'll see in older parts books, and it's the current version of the earlier 70-3711 plug. It shows up in the CRANKSHAFT AND CONNECTING RODS section of the parts books, which tells you where it lives - screwed into the end of the crank, holding in the sludge trap tube that catches debris out of the oil before it reaches the connecting rod journals.

It's a slotted plug, so it takes a screwdriver-type tool rather than a socket or spanner. Because it's tied directly to the crank's internal oil filtration, it's not something to skip or improvise on when you've got the crank apart - the sludge trap only works if the plug is properly seated and sealing.
Our catalog record ties this to unit 350/500 twins across catalog appearances from 1969 to 1974. If you're working on something outside that window, check with us before ordering to be sure it's the right plug for your crank.
