SLUDGE TUBE 3 PC CRANK
Sludge tube fitted inside the three-piece crankshaft to trap debris from the oil before it reaches the rod journal.
This is the sludge tube for the three-piece crankshaft. It sits inside the crankpin, where it spins and flings heavier contaminants outward by centrifugal force, keeping the worst of the debris out of the oil feed to the connecting rod journal. On engines with the three-piece crank design, this tube is what does the actual filtering work down in the crank itself, rather than relying on the external oil filter alone.

Because it lives inside the crank assembly, checking or replacing it means splitting the crankcases and pulling the crankpin apart, not a job you do on a whim. Most owners look at this when they're already in there for a rebuild, cleaning out accumulated sludge and either reusing or replacing the tube depending on its condition.
We don't have much more detail on file for this one beyond the crank family it belongs to. If you're not sure whether your motor uses the three-piece crank setup, give us a call before ordering and we'll sort out fitment.
