Speedometer gearbox

Rear wheel speedometer gearbox that drives the speedo cable off wheel rotation, also listed under the older D489 reference.

PN · 60-0489

This is the speedometer gearbox that shows up in the rear wheel figure of the parts book, carrying drive off the wheel to run the speedo cable up to the instrument. In the older catalogs it was listed under D489, which is the earlier reference for the same part before it was renumbered to 60-0489.

It sits down at the rear hub area where the wheel rotation gets converted into cable motion for the speedometer head. Being a gearbox rather than just a drive dog, it houses the gearing that steps the wheel speed down to something the speedo cable and head can read properly.
