RETAINER,GEARBOX CIRCLIP
A small retainer that holds a circlip in place inside the gearbox assembly.
This is a small retainer that holds a circlip in place inside the gearbox area of the bike. It shows up in the parts book listing for the gearbox inner cover and selectors, and it's also cross-listed in the timing cover and contact breaker section, so it's the kind of small hardware piece that can be easy to overlook when you're doing a rebuild but still needs to be accounted for.

Our catalog records show this part number appearing across gearboxes from the mid-to-late 1970s. It's not a glamorous part, just a simple retainer, but if it's missing or damaged the circlip it's meant to hold can work its way loose, which is not something you want happening inside the gearbox.
If you're doing a full teardown on the inner cover and selector assembly, it's worth checking whether you need one of these or a few. Call the shop if you're not sure whether your gearbox uses this exact retainer.
