This is the kickstart ratchet spring, part number 57-2684, also known by the older T2684 or KSP20 designation. It lives inside the gearbox area, in with the gear cluster and timing cover assembly, and it's what keeps the kickstart ratchet pinion engaged and functioning when you swing the kickstart lever.
