Return spring
Return spring for the gearbox outer cover and shift lever mechanism, PN 57-1877 (also listed as T1877).
This is the return spring that lives in the gearbox outer cover, working with the shift lever mechanism shown in the parts book under GEARBOX OUTER COVER AND LEVERS. Its job is to pull the shift lever (and related linkage) back to a neutral resting position after you make a gear change, so the lever doesn't just stay wherever your foot left it.

The catalog lists this one, PN 57-1877, across a long run of appearances from 1964 to 1974, and it also shows up under the older T1877 number if you're working from an earlier parts book. It's a small piece, but if it's weak or broken the shift lever can feel loose, sloppy, or slow to return, which throws off your gear changes even if the rest of the box is fine.
We don't have more detail on this one beyond its place in the outer cover assembly, so if you're not sure whether your cover casting or lever setup matches, give us a call and we'll sort out fitment before you order.
